Sunset at Shady Pond

Hi Folks,

A picture is worth a thousand words or maybe even a few pages in "Southern Living".

Just before Halloween, news came that the Birmingham based magazine was sending a photographer to Shady Pond to acquire pictures to accompany an article that would be written some weeks later. We had three days to get the Farm in shape for the big event.

Then a "Southern Living" associate editor visited in mid November to begin work on the article's narrative. We discussed the Farm's past, camellias, exotic trees, tree pedigrees (taxonomy), selection and care tips, and the magic of Christmas at Shady Pond. These festive subjects should make interesting reading and will compliment the magazine’s history of promoting the South’s proud traditions of treasuring family and gracious living.

The photo shoot and story is the result of efforts by Donna O'Daniels of the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission. Work on this project began nearly 5-years ago and has finally come to fruition.

So on a beautiful fall day at sunset, the small group seen on the green hay wagon (right) took the first step toward this important coverage for Shady Pond, for Pearl River, for St. Tammany Parish, for Louisiana, and for real Christmas trees. Be on the lookout for the story in "Southern Living" next fall.
